Why Satyamev Jayate is so popular ?

I couldn’t stop myself from writing on satyamev Jayate once again. I have been thinking in past few days; why satyamev jayate has become so popular ? I have tried to jot down here what I have found. Satyamev Jayate
It is well known to everyone that a TV show cannot change our society. It’s a TV show after all. But still people seem to like love it. This is because it takes people to the imaginary world where no bad exists and there’s peace everywhere.
In our society, the middle class always follow the social system which is continuing since long. Middle class people can never accumulate so much of courage or strength to go against the society. At the same time, the higher class of people which usually seem to have higher financial power and good social status also don’t dare to go against the society. They may have the strength and also courage but still they keep low for the fear of losing their social standing.
But the actual fact is; everyone with a good heart understands that, we are living in a society where some cruel and inhumanly activities have become a part of our social system. Needless to give an example here but still I would like to exemplify female feticide, dowry, female trafficking+ force marriage+ female buying etc.
Here I have considered only the persons with a good heart i.e. those who do this activities only as a part of ongoing social cycle and not by own wills. Those people always undertake such activities only as a part of social process and always wish to get rid of it.
Most of the average middle class people in our society nowadays live in insecurity. The insecurity arises from many social forces. Most often it feels more prudent to follow the conventional way of living in the society rater than raise voice against social evil and be a victim of it, in return. Also, in most cases it is observed that although, people are living a normal life, still the social evils are not refraining from creating problem to them. Those people lives in a world of negativity. So any faintest ray of hope seems to be life saver for the people. People start seeing new dawn in imagination. Corruption, rape, violence all bad things everywhere happening in uncontrollable magnitude. People had lost faith on judiciary too.
In such a juncture, Satyamev Jayate seems to foster hope in peoples’ minds. This is an unconventional way of publicizing social issues. This normally doesn’t happen. It is not like; till date no TV show had focused the social issues which had been focused by Satyamev Jayate. But the way of presentation of Satyamev Jayate is totally different. It shows hope. It promises. It provokes enthusiastic emotion to fight against the bad. And the best of all – it never analyses anything from political angle.
Another aspect I have noticed is that, the show is totally focused. Its work is not just to show what is happening around us in the society. Any damn news channel can do that(of course only if they want !!). Although the motto of Satyamev Jayate is yet to be understood by me, still it feels that the show preserves its intention to work towards a solution of those problems. Writing a letter to ministry is a good example of that.
Another very good aspect of Satyamev Jayate is that it is problem oriented, not incident oriented. This means the episodes are divided in such a way that each episode addresses one specific problem. I have watched earlier, some other shows which addressed social issues. But those are not problem specific. On every episode they will call one victim of any social crime and let him/her describe what happened to him/her. This lacks the view of the problem in a wide scenario. Also this doesn’t reflect any effort to stop the crime.
This is not a documentary or a show organized by social welfare orgs. This is a reality talk show of popular star Amir Khan where he focuses on social issues. The image of Amir Khan as a person or as an actor is also a key factor here. Through his movies “Rang De Basanti”, “3 idiots”, “Taare Zamin par” etc. he has already occupying a space in the hearts of his viewers as a man who always speaks and acts value.
Although lots of criticism are being done on Satyamev Jayate regarding its motto and lot other things, I personally wish to thank Amir Khan through this post for his extraordinary work.
I have gone through lot of blog posts which negatively criticizes Amir Khan and Satyamev Jayate. I also, am not sure about its motto and doubtful about what changes it can bring. But one thing is sure that at least it had created lot of awareness in last couple of weeks. At least that is one positive outcome of the show. At least something is better than nothing.
I am cautiously optimistic for even better outcomes.
Satyamev Jayate !!!
