what is corruption and why people become corrupt ?

Corruption is a seemingly incurable disease of the society taking birth from the very minds of us, – The people.
So, basically what is corruption and if corruption does no good to anyone, then why people become corrupt ? Well, corruption is a state of mind. Our human mind can enter into a corrupt state at any point of time irrespective of social status, age, sex, religion etc.
As explained in my earlier post, human conscience has two dimensions of personality or self i.e. good self and evil self. Good self is governed by moral, ethics and other “good” characteristics and evil self is governed oppositely.
Till the time good self remains at priority in human conscience everything goes well. But the time when evil self overpowers good self, is the time a person becomes corrupt. So, obviously there must be some reason(s) which brings the evil self above the good self. Yes, there are some reasons. The evil self fascinates the human mind towards the additional enjoyments, material gains and other benefits over and above the regular benefits he/she deserves, by adopting short cut and deceitful ways.
But why people follow the fascination of the evil self? Well, there’re also reasons for it. A few of them are noted below, -
Irresistibility: The very first reason is irresistibility of the seduction of the evil self. We have named it as “GREED”. The comfort or enjoyment attained by means of the corrupt activity is additional to the normal comfort which he/she deserves. The greed of additional comfort makes a person corrupt.
Jealousy: Social status has become important in today’s social scenario. If in workplace, a person
achieves more than his fellow persons(not necessarily being corrupt) then others are likely to be jealous of him and in an attempt to be financially equal, may become corrupt. Effects of this factor is not only limited to persons within the same office but spread out to persons in neighborhood, family relation, friend etc.
Desperation: Desperation to meet the demands of family for good education, health, and a better life is another major factor. Evolution of private firms in health and education sectors in India has compelled middle class to strive for better earning. Both health and education is considered as preliminary needs in twenty first century. Privatization in these two sectors has raised the expenses considerably and has pushed the common man towards corruption.
Globalization has also changed our lifestyles considerably. Our day to day materialistic requirements are also increased remarkably. With it, the expenses have also gone up. Also, the rising prices of essential commodities, inflation etc. has compelled middle class common man to strive for better earning. This starvation for additional income gives rise to corruption.
Indian culture of dowry has also fuelled to it. Peoples having girl child are seen more corrupted comparatively.
Threat: At times, various threats have also seen as a factor of corruption. Corrupt peoples can show threat to peoples sitting at higher position who can stand as an obstacle against the corrupt person. Such a noble person may be threatened in many ways and in most cases people surrender to such threatening and let the corruption take place and keep watching silently. After all, silence is support and to support corruption is also a corruption.
Induction: Corruption is highly inductive. Corruption induces corruption. A corrupt person can very easily induct another person into corruption. At times, it is observed that the inducted person has become corrupt not because of greed, neither because of jealousy or desperation or threat but just because his fellow person has induced him with it.
What is corruption and who become corrupt?
There are various reasons of corruption. I have listed the main ones(I think) above. Now the point is, are all the above mentioned reasons applicable all the corrupt peoples?
I my view, people become corrupt for some specific reason(s). Since it is a state of mind; nobody can assign any logic to it. It doesn’t follow any rule. Hence it cannot be pin pointedly said who will become corrupted and who won’t.
Some people say that rich people cannot be corrupted since they have already got lot of money with them. But it is not true. Rich people become corrupt because of greed. Other reasons also exist.
We can understand what is corruption, but to answer, who become corrupted is almost impossible.
This is my personal view about corruption. Comments are welcome.
